In in vitro fertilization, the female egg cell, oocyte and the male cell, sperm are fertilized outside the body in special laboratory conditions. Fertilized egg cells are called embryo. One or more of the embryos obtained from in vitro fertilization are selected and placed in the mother’s uterus.
